Michigan Medicine providers, Simpa Salami, MD, John Runge, MD, and Bumsoo Park, MD, presented alongside survivor advocate Christina Woods, LMSW, to educate and build rapport with those affected by these issues. Dr. Randy Vince provided valuable context with a historical overview of these disparities, highlighting the longstanding nature of the issue. The conversations addressed critical concerns like screening, diagnosis, treatment, and the broader implications of surviving cancer. This project is the first of many community conversations to come.

We will be following up with another community event in June supporting Men’s Health month. This will serve as a dialogue among our providers, the cancer survivors that we partner with and the community we serve to raise awareness about the unequal burden of these diseases on different communities and explore strategies for improving outcomes for all.
