The Weiser Difference

A new model for prostate cancer treatment.

The Weiser difference starts with a multidisciplinary team structure, providing a collaborative forum for healthcare professionals from different specialties to deliver customized care plans for each patient based on their health, diagnosis, and personal preferences. Our specialties include radiation oncology, urologic oncology, radiology, medical oncology, pathology, sexual therapy, and social work, each playing a vital role in managing prostate cancer.

Research at the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer

We are also looking to the future. We are on a mission to find better ways to help people with prostate cancer, and by leading state-of-the-art research, we can ensure that our patients have access to the best possible tests and treatments. Here is how we’re making progress in prostate cancer research:

Access to Clinical Trials

We have a long history of conducting important clinical trials that define the best way to treat prostate cancer. We are deeply committed to offering our patients access to innovative, state-of-the-art treatments that are not yet widely available. These new approaches aim to improve cure rates and to preserve quality of life. You can help the future of cancer treatment. Volunteering for a clinical trial is a contribution to the future of medicine that only you can make.

Biomarker Development and Personalized Medicine

Our team is composed of international experts in developing and implementing new approaches to diagnostic testing for people with prostate cancer. These tests often involve testing blood, urine, or biopsy tissue to understand specific markers (for example, proteins or genes) that can provide information about a person’s cancer. We are able to offer the latest available molecular tests and conduct ongoing research to find even better tests that may be utilized in the future to improve the care of patients with prostate cancer. When individual biomarker tests are used to guide patient-specific management approaches, we are able to employ a strategy widely known as “personalized medicine.”

State-of-the-Art Imaging and Technology

We use the latest technology in our standard clinical care and in our active research programs. This allows us to incorporate new technologies at a rapid pace and perform research studies to understand the benefits of any new technology. This approach helps us keep learning and improving treatments.

Creating the Best Patient Experience

Our team is dedicated to the study and improvement of the patient experience. We seek new ways to build partnerships between patients, their loved ones, and the health care team to define and deliver the best care experience for every patient. Our research makes a difference for people with prostate cancer — not just at the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer, but all over the world. We are committed to improving and saving lives through groundbreaking research.

The Patient-Centered Approach

We know that every person who comes through our doors is special. Each patient has their unique background, story, needs, and concerns. That’s why we emphasize a “patient-centered approach.”

We are a multidisciplinary team focused on you. Caring for prostate cancer requires many different types of experts.

Your Treatment Team
Here at the center, our specialists span surgical treatments, radiation therapy, medical treatments, and diagnostic tests and imaging.

Your Support Team
Our broader care team also includes nurses, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, social workers, patient navigators, and peer mentors. All of our experts work together to provide you with the best possible care.

Meet the Care Team

Our center was designed for and by our patients. Their suggestions and input help us create a place where patients and their families can thrive.

We listen to patients’ stories, ideas, and experiences to understand and create the best possible environment for people going through this difficult process. The Center is always open to more suggestions and patient feedback as we continue to evolve. Your advice helps us improve and deliver the best care experience for every patient.

Unique Care Plans
We create a treatment plan just for you. Our doctors look at your health situation and work with you to decide the best course. We ask you to teach us what is important to you so we can respect your preferences and values. That may mean your religious or cultural beliefs, your sexual orientation, how you identify, and who is important to include in your care.

Open Communication
You should always know what’s happening to you in our care. We keep you updated on our findings and recommendations. We explain treatment options clearly and answer questions throughout the process.

Teamwork and Support
We recognize that emotional support and specialty care for the side effects of treatment are equally important. In addition to our expert clinical team, everyone you meet on your journey is here to help you and your family. Our Patient Experience Navigator provides the emotional, educational, and logistical support on your journey. Our trained Peer Mentors understand the toll prostate cancer can take on families. They share their own experiences, offer practical advice on managing daily life during and after treatment, and help patients connect with relevant resources.

Respect
We respect your feelings, values, and choices. We value your time and plan appointments efficiently to try to avoid long waits.
