At the Weiser Center, we strive to provide each patient with the best care possible, offering individualized care, thorough explanations about testing, family history, and guidelines for healthier living. Here are some testimonials from a few of our patients sharing their experiences.

“Michigan Medicine doctors are a blessing…” (Jason’s Story)

Jason initially sought care at Michigan Medicine for prostate cancer. However, it was through the meticulous approach of his doctor that metastatic thyroid cancer was discovered. From the moment he met his doctor, Jason felt reassured and well taken care of. Managing a complex case involving both prostate and thyroid cancer, Jason found comfort in his doctor’s thorough approach. From coordinating scans to identifying the cancers and collaborating with his thyroid doctor, Jason’s urologic oncologist ensured that every aspect of Jason’s care was meticulously handled.

Reflecting on his experience, Jason expresses his deep gratitude for the exceptional support he received from everyone he encountered. In particular, he speaks warmly of his scheduler, who diligently organized his pre-op education seminar, surgery, physical therapy sessions, and office visits. According to Jason, her attention to detail and clear explanations made him feel truly cared for, emphasizing that this level of personalized attention far exceeded his expectations of standard care.

“Thank you for saving my life!” (Bill’s Story)

“Before I came to Michigan Medicine, I felt alone and unsure where to find reliable information,” Bill shared. “I ended up having to be an internet doctor. I looked up ‘PI-RADS 4’ on Google and it told me that I had 3-5 years to live.” This news was devastating. “The lack of available information led to me thinking I was a dead man.”

Bill’s search ended when he met the prostate cancer care team at Michigan Medicine. When he initially met with the multidisciplinary team of a urologic oncologist and radiation oncologist in the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer, they informed him that he would be cured of his prostate cancer.

“This was absolutely remarkable! Coordinated, with purpose, in the ‘superior Michigan Medicine way’ each step of the way. There were seamless hand-offs between departments, doctors, nurses. Even the patient portal was outstanding! I’ve already recommended two people; I would recommend Michigan Medicine to anyone.”

When asked for feedback on how to shape the plan for the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer, Bill’s glowing response was “Michigan Medicine is a superior program. I have been blown away each step of the way. I would expect nothing less from you guys than to look to improve.”

“They saw me as a person.” (Craig’s Story)

When Craig visited the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer, he experienced a change in health care as he’d known it.

“I spoke to a friend who referred me to Michigan Medicine. When I met with my urologic oncologist, he saw me as a whole person and reassured me about my treatment. While he still left the decision up to me, he educated me enough to feel confident to make the decision that was right for me.”

“… trust your team and plan.” (Guy’s Story)

Guy came to Michigan Medicine for a second opinion on his cancer diagnosis and had a better feeling about it right from the beginning. “I can’t believe how responsive the doctors at Michigan Medicine are.” Guy felt an immediate connection with his physician and physician’s assistant because they were willing to listen to and educate him on all areas he was unfamiliar with when it came to his treatment. After meeting with his doctor, Guy decided to move forward with active surveillance to manage his prostate cancer.

Guy was introduced to his physician’s assistant who monitored his prostate cancer status with regular PSA tests and alternating annual MRI and biopsy appointments. After receiving help from his care team, Guy had this to say: “I feel like I am emotionally and mentally in a good place due to peace of mind and education of what Active Surveillance and Prostate Cancer are.” When asked if Guy has any advice for future patients, he shared “Trust your team and plan.”
