Sexual Health Treatment Team

Sexual health is an important aspect of survivorship care, a supportive program that helps patients and partners recover good quality of life after treatment.

Sexual health therapists are certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. They understand all aspects of sexual health. At the Weiser Center for Prostate Cancer, they specialize in the psychological and emotional impact of the sexual side-effects of prostate cancer on the man, the partner and the couple. An assessment before or soon after treatment helps a therapist suggest specific strategies for the patient and the partner as they work to maintain sexual intimacy after prostate cancer treatment.

Sexual health therapists work directly with nurses and advanced practice providers. These specialists are able to teach men how to use pro-erectile aids (medications and devices). Together, sex therapists, nurses and advanced practice providers ensure that the patient, his partner and the couple are provided with help for all the aspects of their sexual recovery after prostate cancer treatment concurrently.
