Urologic Oncology Treatment Team
The Urologic Oncology team at Michigan Medicine is internationally recognized for its expertise in caring for patients with genitourinary malignancies.
The team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, researchers, social workers and other key personnel constitutes one of the largest, if not the largest, urologic oncology division in the country. It is consistently a leader in research funding from the National Institutes of Health and major foundations such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation. It is also recognized for its state-of-the-art medical and surgical care, with patient outcomes and quality of life tracked closely in collaboration with the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC).
Urologic Oncologists specialize in caring for patients with cancers of the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder, testicles, prostate, and penis.
Urologic Oncologists are surgeons who have completed a 5-6 year residency following medical school, followed by a 2-3 year fellowship in Urologic Oncology. Our faculty have expertise in open, laparoscopic, robotic, and ablative surgeries (including prostate focal therapy).
As a clinical division of the Department of Urology, our providers assess patients as individuals, as well as with a team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists and pathologists. This multidisciplinary team allows for the design of specialized and personalized treatment plans in order to optimize clinical outcomes.
